TROY, Mich., April 9, 2003 – In recognition of his contributions to the public relations field, James A. Bianchi, president of Bianchi Public Relations, Inc., was awarded Wayne State University’s (WSU) Alumni Achievement Award in Public Relations at the Annual Alumni and Student Recognition Luncheon held today at WSU’s McGregor Memorial Conference Center.
The award is designed to honor professionals who promote excellence in the field of public relations and serve as mentors for promising public relations students. Candidates for the award must also embody the spirit and mission of WSU’s commitment to lifelong learning and show support to the university’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter.
“The Alumni Achievement Award Committee felt that Jim was the ideal candidate to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Shelly Najor, PRSSA Faculty Advisor. “He has shown his support and commitment to WSU and its PRSSA chapter by donating resources and providing internship and career opportunities for WSU students.”
Bianchi, who received a bachelor of arts in journalism from WSU in 1976, landed his first full-time public relations job in 1979. He founded Bianchi Public Relations in 1992 after six years with another Troy, Mich.-based public relations firm and six years as public relations manager with Fruehauf Corp. in Detroit.
The luncheon, which premiered this year, provides an opportunity for alumni to gather at their alma mater and network with each other and students who are pursuing careers in public relations.
