With the ever increasing popularity of social media, many of our personal and professional connections are made online. Klout - a service that measures a user's influence across their social network - gives you and your company the ability to see what your online influence is. Because metrics are such an important part of proving the worth of social media, a service like Klout can be a big asset. It can help you measure overall efforts, the success of specific campaigns and even allows you to compare your score against your competitors and check the scores of those following you. When you share, recommend and create content, Klout will measure your engagement. A Klout score is based on a scale of one to 100 and is developed by collecting data from many social media sites, the most popular being Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, but it also includes Foursquare, YouTube, Tumblr, Flickr and more. Now, you're probably wondering exactly how Klout works? To start, it's important to understand the process behind Klout scores. Klout measures influence based on three categories: true reach, amplification and network score.
- True reach measures how many people you or your company influence. The focus here is on the number of people who are engaged in the content you put out. They are the ones who respond to and share your content.
- Amplification focuses on how much you influence people. This looks at how many people are responding to your company's messages, sharing to spread them further through retweets, @messages and comments, and how often.
- Network score shows who exactly is actively engaged in you or your company's content and how influential your followers are. If someone who is a top influencer is sharing your content, then the network score will be increased.
Klout can also provide lists of top influencers on all topics. This allows you to discover what topics your company influences and lets you connect with others who share topic interests so you can craft messages specifically for them. With a Klout score in hand, you can now see who you are influencing, how you are influencing them and where you could improve. Most importantly, you have the ability to understand the impact you and your company have on your connections. Questions or comments? Contact us at 248-269-1122 or bianchipr@bianchipr.com.
